The Slovenian trio Širom are back with their fourth album fuelled by the search for a reconnection with the remote rural landscapes of their homeland. Their essence and intentions are not lost in this expansive album that shakes off the shackles of a standard vinyl record to allow them to deliver over an hour of cathartic ritual, trance and hypnotic explorations, dream-realism and repetition.

All three multi-instrumentalists – Iztok Koren, Ana Kravanja and Samo Kutin – used the recent imposed times of isolation to not only explore the rich Slovenian topography to draw inspiration and escape, but also expand and deepen their musical repertoire and sense of purpose. The discovery of instruments old, new, familiar and obscure await like instrument bingo for the listener to identify. The imaginary folk trio powered by acoustic and handmade instruments engage and invite with expansive compositions that echo the past, present and future. Haunting and subtle vocals, accompany meditative hurdy-gurdy, lilting lute, banjo riffs, viola plucks, scratches, wind and stretches blend with a range of probing and diverse percussive rhythms to provide an immersive state of escapism. The track names prepare you for reconnecting with the landscapes awaiting.
