Since deciding to become a musician after seeing Christy Moore perform on Irish TV and then cutting his teeth as a singer in Dublin's famous Góilín Singers Club and at other sessions across the city, Dublin-born traditional singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell has won awards such as the All Ireland Champion Singer and a brace of BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as acclaim from the likes of Dónal Lunny and Moore himself as one of the most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years.

His fourth solo album is a powerful and evocative work from a mature artist, founded on a deep respect for the folk tradition of his native land. A number of its songs have been collected from long-time members of Góilín Singers Club, complemented by original works and a version of ‘The Foggy Dew’, which initially appeared as his contribution to the RTÉ's Ireland's Favourite Folk Song. Performing unaccompanied on ‘Slieve Gallion Braes’ and ‘Murphy's Running Dog’, Farrell is joined elsewhere by a stellar cast of musicians, including a special guest appearance on ‘Sonny's Dream’ by brilliant dobro player Jerry Douglas. Not simply the best album so far from Farrell, The Wedding Above in Glencree already sounds very much like a landmark album in Irish acoustic music.
