This Is Zologo Beat

From the home of kologo music in Ghana's Upper East Region, comes a new dance compilation innovated by one of the region's pioneering producers – Francis Ayamga. This Is Zologo Beat is a ten-track compilation that draws on the region's rich and varied talent and interweaves traditional Frafra melodies and instruments with contemporary synth and electro beat loops.

The album lives up to the Frafra meaning of Zologo or ‘crazy’ as it pushes boundaries in musical creativity. From his Top Link studio in Bongo, Ghana, Francis delivers music layered with sampled bleeps, vocoder vocals and even a passing rendition of Coolio's ‘Gangsta's Paradise’ in the track ‘Zom Koom’.

This is Zologo Beat has something for everyone, whether that is the rousing female vocals from Nmasaana in the track ‘Mam Bange Nidaana’ or the gritty Ayisoba-esque voice of Ramond in ‘Agana Sela Tufu Malla’, it is clear to hear why this music is being played on mobile phones, car speakers and sound systems in and around Bongo and the region's capital Bolgatanga.
