Eva Deivert, from Värmland in Sweden, is a long-standing and highly respected fiddle player in Sweden's folk scene. Her passion for music and writing her own tunes has spread her name way beyond Sweden's borders. She has a particular love of Irish traditions too, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by such musicians as uilleann piper and singer Christy O’Leary, who is one of the guests on Tunes from the Backyard.
This album represents a gathering of friends to celebrate what Deivert has contributed to music, recorded in her home over one weekend. Jazz, folk and blues musicians came together and the result is a real sense of intimacy and enormous fun. Fiddles, viola d’amore, whistles, bouzouki, harmonica, cello, guitars, bass and percussion weave a magical journey through Deivert's music, in a project supported by her husband and fellow musician Bert Deivert. I can only echo the words of the great accordionist Karen Tweed: ‘Eva's tunes feel as if I have been singing them forever in my heart… they are melodies to live our lives by’.
