TXAI BAND

LUIZGA (aka Luiz Gabriel Lopes) and Paulo Novaes, two Brazilian artists with impressive careers, have teamed up to form TXAI BAND. Their debut album is not only a stunning collection of songs but also accompanied by a YouTube documentary with English subtitles, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their creative process in Acre, Brazil, in 2023. This album is a meeting of these musicians and the Huni Kuin people, focusing their work around the sacred music of the people. It also features new compositions including ‘BUNI BIMI’ and ‘TAMANI’, the latter named after the eldest daughter of the chief, who says in the documentary: “I loved to hear songs in the language of my ancestors made into popular music.” With such a beautiful process and impactful decolonisation of ideas about field recording and the collection of folk songs from isolated lands, it’s only natural that the music is beautiful too. A must-listen.
