Tesi, a specialist of the organetto, after 30 years produces another tribute to ballo liscio, a hugely popular form of Italian social dance, associated with the concept of social emancipation through collective fun, this time with saxophonist and flautist Claudio Carboni. It’s a deep meditation on the genre, studded with star guests: singer Tosca turns ‘Romagna Mia’, anthem of the genre, into a beautiful nostalgic song; trumpet player Paolo Fresu plays a jazz-inflected ‘Laguna Addormentata’. The album’s personnel ranges from a duo to a full orchestra, and includes percussionist Francesco Savoretti, Fabio Galliani on ocarina, accordionist Massimo Tagliata, guitarist and singer Maurizio Geri, clarinet wizard Nico Gori, Roberto Bartoli, Gianluca Nanni and the Alborada String Quartet. A well-researched tribute, great fun, danceable and beautifully recorded, this album is a resounding success.
