A debut collaboration from Spain that fuses tradition with modern ‘broken beat’ Latin music. Pedro Ricardo, originally from Portugal, and Damián Botigué, from Argentina and raised in Galicia, met each other in Barcelona at a record label party. Ricardo has recently released a solo album on Soundway Records and candombe broken beat maestro Botigué has recordings under the name Karmasound. The album was created in Botigué's home studio and was initially intended as a fun jam session with a group of gathered friends which turned into a creative session that reflected their cultural roots and a desire to find new forms of musical expression. Inspired by shared listening of folk and jazz fusion records, this release has cinematic qualities as well as elements of Latin jazz, funk and bossa. It culminates in a hardcore dance track ‘Cerca de Mi’ with a pervasive commercial house beat. Otherwise, it consists of cool tropical sounds that wouldn’t be out of place on a compilation from Hedkandi or Naked Music.
