The knowingly kitsch cover says it all really: a trio of country musicians aboard a covered wagon, flying like Santa's sleigh over a cowboy saloon and dance hall against a backdrop of skyscrapers. This is Western swing that animates the ghost of Bob Wills: a repertoire of traditional songs recorded on vintage equipment and played on acoustic guitar, fiddle and double bass, that still manages to sound fresh and contemporary.
With infectious versions of standards like ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’, ‘No Moon at All’ and ‘Tennessee Waltz’, guitarist Joey McKenzie, fiddler Katie Glassman and bassist Gavin Kelso serve up a dish of timeless country roots that leaves you wanting seconds. It's just plain old delightful Texan fiddle music that swings like crazy and makes you smile like a loon. Fans of the Hot Club of Cowtown – not to mention the Quintette du Hot Club de France – will love this hard-swinging album from the good-time trio.
